Fates Overview

A fate is an event that is destined to happen in a person’s life, be it significant, insignificant, or even a life direction to some. Everyone has a fate.

If you wish, your character's fate can have already taken place pre-game.

Some people claim to be able to discern the fates of others.

There are organisations and communities dedicated to particular methods of discerning a person's fate. For example, Narrators write people's fates down in tales; Circles of Wyrd-seers divine fates through natural omens, and the Royal Weavers of Coreinodel create intricate tapestries for their monarchs.

Though most organisations hold that their way is the best, the methods by which a fate might be gleaned are countless. If you can think of a method, it's probably been used at one point or another.

Inevitably, depending on the method, fate predictions can vary from being extremely specific to entirely incomprehensible. However, fate predictions also generally seem to range from being extremely accurate to at least vaguely correct.

At a young age, most (but not all) people experience unique changes to their physical appearance. These changes are called manifestations.

It is widely accepted that the form a person's manifestation takes reflects some aspect of their fate because in instances where someone's fate is correctly predicted, the form of their manifestation always turns out to be connected to it.

Some believe that any alteration in a person's manifestation after it initially appears is a sign of their fate being fulfilled, but others disagree, arguing that they have observed changes in their manifestations at multiple points in their lives.

Manifestations range from imperceptibly subtle to entirely obvious. For example, a person may have eyes that faintly reflect shadow instead of light, joints that hinge like those of a doll, or hair that appears to be made of snakes.

Fate, the person, dwells in the Palace—that legend is so widespread that most anyone you ask will be able to tell you it. However, the Palace cannot be found on any maps, and the particular details of what exactly Fate does day-to-day are subject to much debate.

Nevertheless, in a world where everyone has a fate, all agree that the role of Fate is important. Fate is the overseer of all fates, after all. Whatever you believe about Fate, one truth remains: Fate is the person with more power over fates than anyone else in the world.

Curiously, the election of a new Fate is often only a once-in-a-century event. It is a momentous occasion, drawing the eyes of a multitude of nations, organisations, and individuals.

Indeed, it seems as though it has always been of great global interest. According to the records that exist, the role of Fate has been occupied by people from a variety of nations and backgrounds over the past few centuries.
